The recession has hit the whole of Europe. However here in this beautiful landscape, there is still opportunity for good investment. Property is worth more than in the South, but prices have been cut dramatically and there are some gems to be found. There is still more money here than in much of Spain. People who are looking for quality investment property, may well find the house or apartment for which they are searching via Brava Connect, plus with our financial help and more reliable currency exchange, your move could be a lot less stressful and save you a great deal of money. Don’t forget! if you are moving back to your country of origin, and you need currency exchange, this London based company can help you make your move without any more loss of money than necessary. Many people are selling for less than they would like, banks will charge you a whole lot more.

On the subject of banks here, be very careful, I have just had a very expensive experience when leaving Bank Santander, because of their unfair bank charges, to my horror it then cost me 68€ to close my account, This does not have to happen, so beware of unscrupulous banks. I would not recommend this bank to anyone.

Holiday accommodation in The Costa Brava both small and economy hotels , B&B, & holiday accommodation for the mentally or physically handicapped. We have other contacts not seen here, so please ask.

Living and working in The Costa Brava is very exciting. The culture here is quite different from Spain and the Catalans are proud of their heritage. I remember the area in the sixty’s when Franco was in power and as holiday makers we assumed this was just another part of Spain, how wrong we were.

My family would visit the Figueres and Roses area at the northern end. We were even lucky enough to see Salvidor Dali in a local restaurant. What we didn’t realise was the suppression that lurked beneath the surface, we had no idea that local people were not allowed to speak Catalan. It’s for this reason that the current culture is the way it is.

Although I would recommend anybody hoping to work here to learn Spanish first, I would suggest to those of you planning to retire here; that Catalan may be your best choice, although it is a bit more complicated to learn. This means that you could integrate with local people as everything social is in Catalan, to really become a part of this area and get to know people, speaking Catalan is an advantage. Looking forward to meeting you. Sincerely, Penny Berlin.

This view is taken from one of the areas premier hotels ‘Hostal La Gavina’ looking down into San Pol Bay, famous for it’s fairytale castle, shown in many pictures. This bay is often shown as Sant Feliu de Guixols, but is in fact just around the coast. Driving from Sant Feliu towards Platja d’Aro you will come to S’Agaro and San Pol Bay is it’s nearest beach. This little bay sports various cafe’s and restaurants and is ideal for children or older people who don’t want to walk too far to get to a sandy beach. You will see some large modernist mansions built by Catalans who made their fortunes in Cuba (they are referred to locally as Cubanos) Trading sugar and tobacco in the late 19th century and then came back to spend it in their favourite seaside resorts along the Mediterranean.

From here you can take a wonderful walk around the coast to Sa Conca Beach which is on the edge of Platja d’Aro, walking this way you can’t fail to be impressed by the fabulous houses you’ll come across most of which were built in the 1920′s and 30′s, designed by Rafael Maso.
When you finally reach Sa Conca, you can either continue walking over the beach and on to the Port at Platja d’Aro or return a quicker way behind the houses through the select community back to San Pol Bay. I can highly recommend this walk, which is particularly lovely on a sunny day, when the sea is clear blue, in the winter or in the summer.
